Marina Bay

Bay of Hope and Light

Well its now Jan 2nd 2014 and all the festivities of Christmas and the New Year have passed. I hope it was a good one for all of you and your families. Back to reality now.... or in my case back to waiting for the next celebration here in Singapore!

We ummed and aahed about whether to go to Marina Bay to see in the New Year but decided we would brave it being our first New Years Eve here in Singapore, plus I wanted to photograph the wishing spheres on "their special night" as highlighted in my previous post

We managed to get into the city quite easily, having a drink on Boat Quay then making our way to Marina Bay.... or at least we tried to! we wanted to get near to the Merlion, Esplanade or Marina Bay Shoppes..... but so did the rest of the population and we were turned back by police when each area became too full and entry was closed off. We shuffled and squeezed our way past the Fullerton and around to MBS, tripping over families "picnicking" on the paths in front of the water - a dangerous occupation in the dark with so many thousand people jostling by them in my opinion. Entrance just by MBS was closed off again - we gave up!!!

We returned to our "local" and saw the New Year in there watching the fireworks display on the TV and probably saw more than we would if we had been there, plus surrounded by friends.

Next year we will know doubt try again but arrive earlier or maybe even pay to sit in the F1 Seating Gallery and watch whatever concert will be taking place then. This years artists included The Wanted (hubby - said "the who?"  "no darling not The Who ...The Wanted"!!!!)

So below are just a few photos that I took, from a distance, of the Wishing Spheres" as promised. Hopefully it gives you some insight on what the view was like as I promised.

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

You can see the crowds of people sitting in the Seating Gallery almost echoing the spheres in The Bay.
